The guitarist in my indie band owed money to some people, so he skipped town for the far-reaches of the country -- so that he can make a ton of cash and come back and repay them, of course. It's bad timing for us because he's supposed to record vocal tracks. A month isn't so bad though, it just means that Sabez gets put on hold, and this crazy synth thing gets off the ground. I added another synth to my collection, this one a small box of madness called the Kaossilator. It's about the size of an old portable CD player, and uses a touch pad instead of keys. It has an 8 bar loop function, with the ability to put many layers together to create loopy electronica. It blows that you can't save your creations to anything, as they get lost when you power down, but it wasn't very expensive and is more of a funbox then a serious recording device. It works really well for playing live though, ignoring the loop function and just jamming out along with another synth. It is also sweet that it works on batteries, and can be jammed with on the bus/train/plane.
